India’s largest telecom operator with over 200 million subscribers – Airtel is managed by Bharti Airtel Limited Company. Its origin has its root in Bharti Group founded in 1983 by Sunil Mittal. On its way, it has made several acquisitions and then finally rebranded itself under the single brand name “Airtel” in 2003. At present times, it is not only operating in India but several other countries like SriLanka, Bangladesh, and several parts of Africa.
From metro cities to remote villages, the network towers of Airtel are running all over India. In fact, it is the first operator to bring 4G service(currently available at few select places only) in India. It provides 3G in many Indian cities. Both Postpaid and prepaid mobile connections are available. It offers several VAS (Value Added Services) like GPRS, EDGE, 3G data, 3G video calling, hellotunes, etc. But complaints of unsolicited automatic activation of VAS services against Airtel have been abound as well.
Besides mobile network service, Airtel also provides broadband and airtel fixed landline services at few places. It also provides Airtel Digital TV service in the whole of India. Recently it also launched Airtel Money in collaboration with Infosys to provide easy way to make mobile payment, pay bills and make financial transactions. The signature tune of Airtel is composed by the widely acclaimed musician A.R. Rahman. Airtel is also famous for its branding TV ads like Har dost jaruri hota hai, etc.
